Lecturer | Senior Lecturer - Music Composition

Te Whare o ngā Pūkōrero Pūoro | School of Music is seeking a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Composition. The successful candidate will plan and deliver research-led teaching, and supervise music composition at all programme levels - from undergraduate to Doctorate. The role includes delivering lectures in compositional theory, technique, and repertoire. You will produce innovative creative research outputs with national and/or international impact. This role will provide students with opportunities to develop their knowledge and understanding of music in contemporary society and with the necessary resources and skills to enable them to undertake further enquiry, research and work-related practice.

The ideal candidate will hold a doctorate in Music Composition and be capable of teaching and supervising a diverse student cohort from undergraduate to doctoral levels. They should have an active composition practice recognised through national or international commissions, publications, or presentations. The candidate must demonstrate skills in both notated and electronic/algorithmic composition and have experience collaborating in various musical and non-musical contexts.

Experience in teaching composition at a tertiary level and familiarity with the national music sector are desirable, along with a history of building external community and industry partnerships. We encourage early or mid-career composers and those historically underrepresented in composition practice to apply, including individuals for whom English is a second language.

This is a full time (40 hours per week) permanent position.

Remuneration: L1 $94,981 - L7 $113,463, SL1 $120,752 - SL5 $138,721
