Description of Instrument:
LABEL: Unlabeled DESCRIPTION: This is a German viola, likely Mittenwald area, made in the early 20th century. Very distinct style found in the sound holes. The top plate is of close, uneven grain spruce. The book-matched back plate is of highly flamed maple. Rib garland, neck, and scroll are of maple matching the back. Varnish is a warm orange over a mélange yellow ground. Instrument is in excellent condition. Back Plate: 443 mm 17 7/16” Upper Bout: 207 mm Middle Bout: 143 mm Lower Bout: 257 mm ff lobes: 59 mm SECOND BOW: Psretzschner brand: older German bow, round pernambuco viola bow with ebony frog, distinctive mother of pearl inlay, and silver mountings.
