Claude Augustin Miremont est reconnu comme l'un des plus grands luthiers de la seconde moitié du XIXe siècle. Il a remporté les plus hautes distinctions aux Expositions universelles de 1853, 1855, 1862 et 1867. Ses instruments sont particulièrement prisés, notamment ses violoncelles.
