Violin:

Martin Hornsteiner of Mittenwald early 19th century

Prix: 10000
A 19th century Bohemian Violin bearing a facsimile label attributing it to Martin Hornsteiner in Mittenwald of some 180 to 200 years of age accompanied by paperwork from William Moennig, Thomas Knight, and Yaniv M. Cohen. The projection of the fingerboard was recently raised to 26.5mm in consideration of the generous arching of the belly and readily delivers a powerful, yet sweet and well-balanced voice. The button was expertly grafted when the top and back were foreshortened to fit the later rib structure, probably taken from a circa 1900 violin from Schonbach. The masterful restoration of this early 19th century violin were probably completed under the auspices of Moennig in the late 70's.
The varnish was blended to hide this unification and finished with a polyurethane polish that was fashionable at the time but since discontinued by the industry at large for the sometimes cloudy quality it produces over time, a detail mentioned in the 1982 Moennig appraisal.
Certification: Cohen Violins 2024, Thomas Knight Violins 2024, William Moennig & Son 1982 You may contact Daniel Beilman as a reference, as well.
