Violin:

John Kennedy, England, London 1790s

Prix: £3250 (GBP)
A fine piece of English History. A fine violin made by John Kennedy, uncle of the famous maker Thomas Kennedy in the 1790's. It is labelled with hand written label John Kennedy, Bolton Street London, 1790 or 1794. Cant be precise due to the handwriting style. This was originally a Baroque violin and was mordeinised with a neck graft somwehre in its life. Also has marks on the varnish from a players beard before the chinrest was introduced. Based on a Steiner model and has beautiful arching on the belly. A one piece back of highly flamed maple. A bright tone, and would benefit from a new set up and some TLC. i have a written appraisal from Bridgewood and Neitzhert available on request stating its valuation in 2017 and a breakdown of work needed with estimated valuation. In the written appraisal it is stated, if the work is carried out the violin would have a value in the region of 8k to 9k, if in perfect condition up to 15k. Brought in 1998 during my studies. More photos on request.
Certification: Written appraisal from 2017 from Bridgewood and Neizhert through email after I left the instrument with them. Can forward on request. Very clear as to work needed and valuations as stated in the info.
