Opera Ballet Vlaanderen (OBV) is the largest cultural institution of the Flanders region in Belgium and is a 2014 merger between the Flanders Opera and the Royal Ballet of Flanders. We are a house where we want to play together at all times, to pioneer and inspire a wide audience.
OBV performs major classical works and new creations from the opera, dance and ballet repertoire in Antwerp and Ghent. Opera Ballet Vlaanderen rests on 3 pillars: opera, ballet and VONK. We want to present our art forms as contemporary and living art. The focus is on great works from the opera, ballet and dance hisytory, but also minor and major works to be rediscovered, contemporary creations and projects in which opera, ballet and dance come together in new, synergetic ways.
With VONK we concentrate on artistic education for children, young people and adults, connecting art and society through participatory projects, innovative research on the future of our genres, supervision, development and training of artistic talent.
OBV does all this within the urban character of the cities of Antwerp and Ghent, in active collaboration with the Flemish and international cultural field and for an audience that should be as diversified as possible.
