Opera North is England’s national opera company in the North and one of Europe’s leading arts organisations. Its’ Learning & Engagement department works with professional artists to deliver opera related participative arts and family performance activity by, with and for people of all ages across the north of England each year. Forming part of a Talent Development strand of work, the Young Musicians Studio was originally designed as a progression route from In Harmony Opera North primary schools, but now accepts young people from across Leeds and West Yorkshire keen to develop their musical skills. The setting meets on a Saturday morning and runs throughout the academic year.
An opportunity has arisen for a Young Musicians Development Lead to collaborate with colleagues across Opera North, including with players from the Orchestra of Opera North, to oversee the pedagogy and artistic direction of the Young Musicians Studio; leading a team of specialist tutors to deliver a year-round programme of high quality and engaging tuition.
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of musical pedagogy, in relation to instrumental learning and musicianship, and demonstrable experience of leading a team and inspiring others. This post is subject to enhanced DBS clearance.
Salary: 39,627 per annum (pro rata)
