Durham Fellowships are open to string players who have graduated from college, university, or conservatory, and are between the ages of 22 and 30. Fellows perform with the orchestra, receiving professional training and experience on stage and in the pit. Fellows dedicate much of their time as a string quartet, presenting to local students in the classroom, and performing on the COT's various series.
The primary objectives of the Durham Fellowships are to:
1. Deepen The COT’s local engagement across generations, from elementary schools to retirement communities; and
2. Provide young professional musicians with the artistic, financial, and administrative support needed for them to confidently take the next steps into the professional world.
Details:
- 2 year contract with option for 3rd year renewal
- 9 month season (September - May)
- Residency in Durham is required during the season
- $40K Annual Salary + full Health Insurance
-$2K relocation stipend
- Stipend for audition expenses and professional development
Programmatic Components:
- Partake in all COT orchestral performances both on stage and in the pit
- Receive intensive guidance in preparation and performance from COT Resident and Guest Soloists
- Mock auditions
- Fellows form a string quartet that will headline The COT’s weekly elementary education program Da Capo
- Work with COT Education Coordinator to create and present community engagement and educational content
- Perform as a quartet on the UpClose Chamber Music Series and BEERthoven Series
- participate in personal growth and professional development activities
- Assist COT staff with various administrative tasks when needed
Eligibility:
- Applicants must have completed at least an undergraduate degree
- Applicants must be no younger than 22 years of age, and no older than 30 years of age upon applying for the Fellowship
- Fellows will be selected through a pre-screening and live audition process.
