French Diction and Repertoire | Juilliard Extension

Embark on a captivating musical journey as we delve into the rich world of French repertoire, ranging from mélodie composers such as Debussy, Fauré, Duparc and Hahn to the operatic masters Bizet, Massenet and many others. In this course, we explore a vast spectrum of French music, beginning with early French songs preceding the explosion of late 19th C mélodie composition and then continuing to trace its development through to the present day. Through this immersive experience, you will acquire essential skills in French phonetics (IPA) and witness how they come to life in the genre of French repertoire that resonates with you. Our classes are structured to provide a comprehensive understanding of the phonetic structure of the French language as it applies to our chosen songs and arias. You will witness your growth and artistic development culminate in a class recital.
